History of Ratcliffe School

The school was built in 1976 as a facility for students with moderate learning difficulties. This original school closed in July 1988 and although the old name was retained, the present school opened in
September 1988.

Ratcliffe School Today

Our school benefits from extensive grounds set in 10 acres of woodland. We study conservation and use the woodlands for walks and educational as well as evening activities. There are 5 residential blocks with communal areas, games rooms, dining areas, computer suites and individual bedrooms.

Tamar is a specialist provision for students with Autism and communication, interaction difficulties who are not able to move from class to class. There are bespoke individual learning areas where children can learn one to one (with the opportunity to visit specialist teachers in the main school building to aid their learning experience). We have a small sensory room and therapy rooms providing art, play and sand tray therapy. We also offer massage therapy to help students to feel relaxed and calm. We offer a variety of after school clubs and additional activities as well as our own youth club.
